Vi har ofte mødt stor udenlandsk begejstring og forbløffelse af de høje standarder af fysiske rammer i de nye psykiatrisygehuse i Danmark, og nu også i Norge, som slet ikke er selvfølgelighed i resten af verden.

CAN A HIGH SECURITY MENTAL HOSPITAL BE LUXURY?
We have often experienced great awe about the high quality of the physical environment in the new psychiatric hospitals in Denmark (and now also in Norway), which is not always an obviousness in the rest of the world.
Our work has been noticed in New York and we have just received the Best Luxury Public Services Architecture for Sikkerhetsbygget in Trondheim so yes - the answer is - it can!
The project is carried out in collaboration with NCC Norway, Ratio arkitekter, Cowi Norway and Schønherr.
We are very proud of the successful Nordic collaboration and to elevate the standards for psychiatric construction in Scandinavia together!
CHRISTIAN KARLSSON UDPEGET SOM FAGDOMMER I ARKITEKTKONKURRENCEN OM DET NYE MARTEC KRAGHOLMEN I FREDERIKSHAVN
Martec Kragholmen i Frederikshavn, som er en del af Det Blå Danmark, skal blive til en unik, moderne og attraktiv søfartsskole og står overfor en omfattende modernisering.
Projektet udføres som arkitektkonkurrence og omfatter både renovering af eksisterende bebyggelse, samt nybyggeri for at skabe optimale rammer for undervisning og ophold for elever og undervisere.
Derudover er der stor fokus på bæredygtighed: godt indeklima, lav energiforbrug og effektiv energiforsyning.
Projektet gennemføres med støtte fra den A.P. Møllerske Støttefond.

CHRISTIAN KARLSSON APPOINTED AS A JURY MEMBER OF THE NEW MARITIME AND POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY COLLEGE (MARTEC) COMPETITION.
Martec Kragholmen in Frederikshavn is going to be modernized to become a unique, modern and attractive maritime education center.
The project is kicked off with an architecture competition and is about both renovating the excisting buildings and new construction.
There is great focus on sustainability, where good indoor climate, low energy consumption, effective energy consumption and good environmental parametres are prioritized.
The project is supported by the A.P Møller Foundation.
KARLSSON ARKITEKTER VINDER OPGAVEN OM BYGHERRERÅDGIVNING FOR GENERATIONERNES KVARTER I HILLERØD KOMMUNE !
Vi er utrolig glade for at kunne offentliggøre, at vi har vundet rammeaftalen med Hillerød Kommune om udvikling af Generationernes Kvarter i det nye byområde Favrholm.
Opgaven er vundet af et stærkt team - Karlsson arkitekter som bygherrerådgiver og arkitekter, Schønherr som landskabsarkitekter og Dines Jørgensen & co. som rådgivende ingeniører.
Generationernes Kvarter handler om at skabe et byggeri, der samtænker plejehjem, daginstitution og kultur- og fritidsaktiviteter.

KARLSSON ARCHITECTS WINS CLIENT CONSULTANCY ASSIGNMENT GENERATIONS QUARTER IN HILLERØD MUNICIPALITY
We are incredibly happy to announce that we have won the framework agreement with Hillerød Municipality to develop Generations Quarter in the new neighbourhood Favrholm in Hillerød.
The assignment is won in a strong team – Karlsson architects as client consultants and architects, Schønherr as landscape architects and Dines Jørgensen & co. as engineers.
The Generations Quarter is a concept that combines elderly care, daycare, culture and recreative program.

SIKKERHETSBYGGET I TRONDHEIM VINDER EUROPEAN HEALTHCARE DESIGN AWARDS 2022 !
Karlsson arkitekter modtog i går European Healthcare Design Awards 2022 ved prisuddeling på EHD-konferencen i London for arbejdet med det nye sikkerhedspsykiatriske sygehus i Trondheim –SIKKERHETSBYGGET.
Prisen er givet i kategorien Mental Health Design og blev bedømt bl.a. på kriterier om innovative design og humanistiske omgivelser, som understøtter behandlingen, omsorg og recovery i samspil med sikkerhed og arbejdsflow.
”Vi er utrolig stolte over den internationale anerkendelse projektet har fået og dermed også anerkendelse af de idéer og principper for en humanistisk og helende arkitektur, som vi arbejder med” udtaler Christian Karlsson og takker samtidig for det fine samarbejde med bygherren, brugere og i teamet.
Psykiatrisygehuset er Norges første højsikkerhedspsykiatriske sygehus og har fokus på at skabe helende arkitektur for patienter med alvorlige psykiatriske diagnoser og dom til behandling. SIKKERHETSBYGGET IN TRONDHEIM WINS EURPOEAN HEALTHCARE DESIGN AWARDS 2022 !
Yesterday Karlsson architects received the European Healthcare Design Awards 2022 at the award ceremony at the EHD conference in London for the work on the new high security psychiatric hospital in Trondheim – SIKKERHETSBYGGET.
The award was given in the category Mental Health Design and was based on the achievement to reconcile the patients need for a humanistic environment that supports ongoing therapy, care and recovery, and the requirement for appropriate levels of safety, security, and supervision.
“We are incredibly proud of the international recognition the project has received and thus also recognition of the ideas and principles for humanistic and healing architecture that we work with” says Christian Karlsson and thanks the client, users and the team for the fine cooperation.
The psychiatric hospital is Norway’s first high security psychiatric hospital and focuses on creating healing architecture for patients with serious psychiatric diagnoses and sentenced to treatment. The project has been created in collaboration with Ratio arkitekter, NCC Norge, COWI Norge and Schønherr for St. Olavs Hospital and Sykehusbygg.
BÆREDYGTIGHED OG FNs VERDENSMÅL
Vi har allerede i dag et stort fokus på social bæredygtighed i vores arbejde på tegnestuen, men vi kan – og skal – have et større fokus på at medvirke til at mindske klimaaftrykket !
Igennem en række spændende workshops har vi derfor diskuteret FNs verdensmåls betydning for tegnestuens fremtidige arbejde.
Fremadrettet vil vi i alle projekter arbejde med livscyklusanalyser (LCA) som forudsætning og som redskab til at designe miljørigtigt byggeri, ligesom vi vil udvikle vores kompetencer og søge fagligt samarbejde med relevante specialister for at sikre evidensbaseret viden og løsninger på dette område.
Netop nu er vores arkitekt og DGNB-konsulent Ane Hervold ved at uddanne sig som certificeret rådgiver i bæredygtigt byggeri og vi glæder os til at kunne trække endnu mere på hendes kompetencer indenfor det.
Herudover vil vi udvikle pilotprojektet demensX baseret på en række konkrete FN verdensmål og systematisk undersøge, hvordan vi endnu bedre kan indtænke fremtidssikrede løsninger, biodiversitet og valg af materialer i en ansvarlig social bæredygtighed.

SUSTAINABILITY AND UN GLOBAL GOALS
We already have a strong focus on social sustainability in our work, but we can – and must – have a greater focus on helping to reduce the carbon footprint !
Through an exciting series of workshops, we have discussed the significance of the UN global goals four our future work.
Going forward we will work with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in all projects as a design tool to help further sustainable construction. Alongside we will develop our skills and seek professional collaboration with relevant specialists to ensure evidence-based knowledge and solutions with this area.
Our architect and DGNB consultant Ane Hervold almost have her certificate as a certified consultant in sustainable construction and we look forward to benefit from her newly found knowledge.
In addition, we will develop the pilot project demensX based on a number of concrete UN global goals and systematic studies on how we incorporate future-proof solutions, biodiversity and the choice of materials in a responsible social sustainability.

KARLSSON ARKITEKTER SHORTLISTET TIL 2 DEMENSPLEJEHJEM
Karlsson arkitekters arbejde med demensX skaber fortsat stor interesse og vi er i marts 2022 shortlistet til 2 nye projekter for mennesker med demens.
Sammen med MOE og Vildskab, er vi shortlistet til konkurrencen om udvikling af nyt stort demensplejehjem Munkebo i Kolding for ALFABO og Kolding Kommune.
Programmet omfatter etablering af 70 boliger samt daghjem og bliver et centralt element i områdets fortsatte udvikling af både landskab og bygninger - et fagligt fyrtårn i Munkebo og inden for demensplejehjem !
I Svendborg har vi indledt samarbejde med SAB, Graa Arkitekter og INGENIØR’NE og er sammen shortlistet til konkurrencen om opførelsen af nyt demensplejehjem for Svendborg Kommune i det nye spændende bæredygtige byområde Tankefuld.
Demensplejehjemmet vil bestå af 45 boliger, daghjem m.m. Her er den faglige ambition tårnhøj, blandt andet med fokus på samspil mellem børneinstitution og fremtidens demens.

KARLSSON ARCHITECTS SHORTLISTED FOR 2 DEMENTIA CARE HOMES
Karlsson architects’ work with demensX continues to cause great interest and in March 2022 we have been shortlisted for 2 new projects for people with dementia.
Together with MOE and Vildskab we are shortlisted in the competition for the development of a new large dementia care home in Kolding for ALFABO and Kolding Municipality.
The program includes the establishment of 70 homes as well as a day center and will be a key element in the area’s continued development of both landscape and buildings - a professional benchmark for Munkebo and within dementia care homes !
In Svendborg we have initiated a collaboration with SAB, Graa Arkitekter and INGENIØR’NE and together we are shortlisted in the competition for the construction of a new dementia care home for Svendborg Municipality in the new sustainable area Tankefuld.
The dementia care home will consist of 45 homes, day center etc. The ambition for the program is high, with a unique opportunity to place a childcare facility next to the new dementia care home.
Design for those who need it the most !

Jonas Rask er uddannet arkitekt fra Arkitektskolen i København, med en kandidat fra programmet Arkitektur, Rum og Tid på Institut for Bygningskunst, By og Landskab.
Med sit fokus på velfærdsarkitektur, har Jonas allerede markeret sig som arkitekt med afgangsprojektet ‘Urbant hjem - et sted mellem bænk og bolig’ for hjemløse programmeret med sparring fra projekt UDENFOR. Læs mere om projektet her: https://bit.ly/31M9GIe
Han har i øvrigt praktisk erfaring fra flere års arbejde med børn og voksne med autisme og udviklingsforstyrrelser.

MEET JONAS - OUR NEW COLLEAGUE!
Jonas Rask has a degree in architecture from the School of Architecture in Copenhagen, with a master’s degree from the program Arkitektur, Rum og Tid at the Department of Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape.
With his focus on welfare design, Jonas has already marked himself as an architect with his thesis ‘Urbant hjem - et sted mellem bænk og bolig’ - a project for homeless people programmed with feedback from projekt UDENFOR. Read more about the project here: https://bit.ly/31M9GIe
He also has practical experience from several years of working with children and adults with autism and development disorders.
Jonas is already working on the development of the new psychiatric hospital in Viborg.

Onsdag den 27. oktober blev det nye Sikkerhedspsykiatriske Sygehus for St. Olavs Hospital i Trondheim, Norge indviet.
Byggeriet er det første af denne type retspsykiatri i Norge, for mennesker med alvorlig psykiatrisk diagnose og dom til behandling.
Karlsson arkitekter har udviklet projektet i samarbejde med NCC Norge, Ratio arkitekter, COWI Norge og Schønherr.

INAUGURATION OF HIGH SECURITY PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL IN NORWAY
On Wednesday October 27 the new High Security Psychiatric Hospital for St. Olavs Hospital in Trondheim, Norway was inaugurated.
The construction is the first of its kind in forensic psychiatry in Norway for people with a serious psychiatric diagnosis and sentenced to treatment.
Karlsson architects has developed the project in collaboration with NCC Norway, Ratio architects, COWI Norway and Schønherr.

Karlsson arkitekter er shortlistet til at tegne stort psykiatrisk sygehus på Prince Edward Island (PEI) i samarbejde med canadiske arkitekt/ingeniør firma NORR.
Bygherren, Health PEI / Goverment of Prince Edward Island, ønsker helt nye rammer for behandling af mennesker med adfærds- og afhængighedsproblemer.
Det nye Hillsborough Hospital skal være en del af en helt ny bydel på den gamle campus ved Hillsborough River i Charlottetown og have kapacitet til 60-70 indlagte patienter samt flere behandlingsklinikker.

KARLSSON ARCHITECTS ARE SHORTLISTED IN CANADA !
Karlsson architects are shortlisted to design a large psychiatric hospital on Prince Edward Island (PEI) in collaboration with Canadian architect and engineer firm NORR.
The client, Health PEI / Government of Prince Edward Island, wants a completely new framework for treating people with behavioral and addiction problems.
The new Hillsborough Hospital will be a part of a brand new district on the old campus by Hillsborough River in Charlottetown an have capacity for 60-70 patients as well as several treatment clinics.
KARLSSON ARKITEKTER VINDER NY PSYKIATRI I VIBORG !
Sammen med MOE og Schønherr har vi vundet bygherrerådgiveropgaven om udvikling af det nye psykiatrisygehus i Viborg. Byggeriets program er på ca. 19.500 m2 og har en samlet budgetramme på ca. 550 mio dkr.
”Vi er meget glade og stolte over, at få mulighed for at hjælpe Psykiatrien i Region Midtjylland med at skabe de bedste rammer for behandling af patienterne i Viborg og vi ser nu frem til at samarbejde med patienter og personale i en kreativ og konstruktiv proces frem mod et færdigt byggeri, hvor patientens behov og behandling er i centrum” siger Hedvig Molnár Karlsson.
